The fireworks show over Harbour Bridge is put on by the City Council, and is, by far, the main attraction on December 31st every year. Sydney has several vantage points where you can catch the show, all offering various ways to celebrate the new year.
AllTheRooms has rounded up the best places to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Sydney — each allowing you to enjoy the epic show.
1. Harbour of Light Parade
A select number of vessels will be decorated in special rope light and take part in a processional through the harbour. If you’ve never experienced a cruise for NYE, you’ll want to book your ticket for this magical aqua showcase. After the fireworks show, these boats continue illuminating Sydney’s harbour with their special lighting, music and entertainment.
2. Sydney Opera House
Bring in the new year at Sydney’s most iconic structure. Attend the Opera Gala, an amalgamation of the world’s best musical pieces in one, 2-hour show. After the show, enjoy the harbour fireworks, then head to the exclusive Midnight Party. If you’d rather skip the show, check out NYE Portside Sydney. This event has one of the best views of Harbour Bridge from under the opera house sails, where you’ll enjoy a curated menu and free-flowing champagne all night long.
3. Royal Botanical Garden
Gather a picnic, bring your family and head to the Royal Botanical Garden to watch the fireworks show among 160-acres of the most beautiful, natural surroundings. The gardens will feature several events, from family-friendly to all-night celebrations. Make sure to sign up before you go as only members can purchase tickets. Thousands will join you to view the spectacular show, so arrive early to claim your spot.
4. Taronga Zoo
The Taronga Zoo offers an annual party that sells out every year and offers one of the better views of the harbour. The venue offers a perfect NYE solution for families and couples looking to bring in the new year in a safe, peaceful and unique environment. Not to mention, proceeds from ticket sales go toward conservation efforts. Tickets tend to go quickly, so grabs yours ASAP.
5. Bangaroo Reserve
Bangaroo has quickly become one of the greatest NYE celebration gatherings in Sydney. The reserve provides the perfect viewpoint, sloped grassy areas, and picnic baskets available for purchase. The fireworks show starts at 9 pm, but the sunset is worth witnessing as well, so head over early and watch the full transition from one year to the next.
6. Field Day Sydney
