New Year’s Eve is a time for resolutions and a time to change past behaviors. It’s a time to trade in old bad habits for new ones, and a time to start over with the goals that never made it to fruition. But, most importantly, it’s a time to celebrate. If you happen to be bored with the same old fist-pumping EDM fest complete with a drunken stupor through your local bars, that’s then followed by a 24-hour alcohol-induced coma, then perhaps it’s time to change things up! What better way to do so than to find a unique place to wake up in the new year?
1. Party on the beach in San Juan, Puerto Rico
San Juan is notorious for its beachfront hotels that host some of the best New Year’s parties this island has to offer.
Get lost in one of six different party atmospheres at the Caribe Hilton’s New Year’s Wonderland or look out onto the spectacular beach view from San Juan’s trendiest venue, Oceano.
Either way, you’ll be able to catch the beautiful fireworks display overlooking the ocean; a perfect scene to inspire this year’s resolutions.
2. Ski into the New Year in Minneapolis, MN
If you’re looking for a unique way to bring in the New Year, check out Buck Hill near Minneapolis.
You can dance to live music, indulge in specialty cocktails and hit the slopes, preferably not in that order. Then, gather your friends to enjoy the midnight fireworks show.
For a more upscale evening, attend the glamorous soiree at the Muse Event Center. Three levels, aerialists, stilt walkers, LED performers and a 3,000-balloon “ball” drop will be more than enough stimulation to make you forget all about last year’s bad decisions.
3. Party-hop all night through San Jose, CA
Silicon Valley typically brings to mind global technology, start-up companies and tech professionals — not exactly the ideal makeup for a good time.
You will, however, be pleasantly surprised to know that San Jose hosts some of the best parties in the South Bay Area.
When work is over, all those techies come out to play, and they play hard. On any given night, downtown San Jose comes to life, and New Year’s Eve is no exception.
From upscale events at the lush Fairmont Hotel to exclusive parties at the intimate venues in Santana Row, your New Year’s Eve options will be anything but dull!
If you’re looking for some variety, grab an AirBnB downtown and party hop into the various bars all night long.
4. Get casually crazy in Honolulu, HI
Hawaii may be a relaxation destination, but come New Year’s Eve everything changes.
The Aloha Tower Marketplace in Honolulu hosts Budweiser’s annual ‘Party of the Year’, which has been voted Hawaii’s No. 1 NYE celebration for six years in a row!
The best part: no fancy clothes required! Come as you are and party last year away with live bands, an entire arena dedicated to food trucks and some of the best DJs from around the world.
5. Celebrate in the Midwest’s Party Destination – Kansas City, MO
Kansas City has long been a favorite party destination in the Midwest.
The historic Union Station hosts an annual themed NYE celebration with live music and a champagne toast under its beautifully decorated interior.
For a party that rivals Times Square, check out The Power and Light District. The area hosts the absolute NYE party with a midnight ball drop, champagne toast, fireworks, live DJs and hundreds of bars and nightclubs to choose from.
And don’t worry if you party too hard because The Westin offers a complimentary late checkout and hot breakfast to get you back into the swing of things.
6. Ring in the New Year with some southern-style fun in Austin, TX
Known for its wild nights and diverse atmosphere, Austin, TX does not disappoint when it comes to New Year’s Eve celebrations.
From Black and White Balls, to 5-course dinners, live DJ sets and the multi-level Neon Gold party hosted by the W Hotel, there is no end to the fun in this city. Get right into the action in the entertainment district on Sixth Street, or overlook the excitement from the rooftop bar party at Parkside.
You can also grab a VIP table at the W Hotel and enjoy a fun night of high-end bottle service and hors d’oeuvres with a few special friends. Whatever your style of celebration, Austin is sure to bring the Southern hospitality in its own special way.
7. Celebrate with some non-stop excitement in New Orleans, LA
This city may be known for its Mardi Gras celebrations, but don’t be fooled, New Orleans knows how to party any time of year.
Catch the fireworks show along the Mississippi River, bar hop on Bourbon Street, party in the Latin Quarter, and take in all the booze you can handle until the early morning hours.
If the city hasn’t done you in, then you can continue the party at the Sugar Bowl the next day. No matter the time of year, New Orleans is a non-stop party that never disappoints.
