Hostels tend to attract travelers aged 18-30. Of course, the age demographic varies depending on what region of the world you’re in. In South America, for example, hostel guests tend to be mid- to late-20s. In Southeast Asia, the range is more young to mid-20s.
That said, older travelers are beginning to take up hosteling, as many in their 30s or even 40s and 50s are realizing that they put off dreams of exploration and traveling for later on, prioritizing their career or other pursuits.
In the context of hostel stays, age really is just a number. Most travelers passing through hostels are open-minded people, which means it’s easy to make friends with people you wouldn’t normally hang out with. Be open to making new connections, regardless of how old or young they might be, and you’ll find the same attitude comes back around. So get out there and hostel-hop. Young or old, don’t let age be something that holds you back!
