One of Southeast Asia’s lesser-known travel destinations, Cambodia falls into the “hidden gem” category when it comes to exploring the region. Still somewhat overshadowed and still very much affected by the genocide carried out by the Khmer Rouge in the late seventies, the country has undergone a healing and recovery process that while still in progress, has covered tremendous ground. Cambodia tends to surprise its visitors with not only its natural beauty but the welcoming nature of its people, its excellent cuisine, and fascinating Buddhist culture. Like the country itself, the quality of available Airbnbs in Cambodia is also somewhat surprising. We’ve picked a few of Cambodia’s Best Airbnbs so you can rest your head in comfort on your upcoming adventure.

Isaan Lodge

Technically a boutique hotel, this four-bedroom lodge in Siem Reap is a quiet paradise hidden amongst mango trees. The entirely wood two-story hotel has almost a “luxury treehouse” vibe with the jungle setting and wood construction fulfilling the latter and the smartly designed rooms and beautiful hidden swimming pool taking care of the former.

Wooden Private Home

If you’re looking for a little more of your own private space, this two-bedroom home is a nice alternative to the boutique hotel market in Siem Reap. The house is absolutely beautiful with its finished dark wood construction and balconies that look out over the neighborhood. Palm trees and other leafy jungle vegetation surround the house and add to its already private feel. The owner recommends heading up to the balcony in the evening to watch the sunset.

Island Beach House

What if you’re looking for something a little more simple, and unwinding at the beach is a higher priority than city exploration? This one-room beach bungalow hides a comfortable bed complete with mosquito netting and opens up to a beautiful view of the M’Pai Bay on the island of Koh Rong Samloem. There are even a hammock and a swinging chair begging for you to put your feet up and watch the world go by.

Peaceful Siem Reap Luxury Home

When we talked about surprises earlier, this house is exactly what we meant. With three bedrooms, a beautiful pool and a surrounding garden, this home looks excellent on paper, but the beauty is in the details. The first floor is sort of an open pathway that leads through a garden into the main entertaining areas before reaching the pool. Buddhist statues are everywhere and even the smallest details contribute to the general peaceful vibe of the home. The rooms upstairs are neatly decorated and the balconies look out over the property and the surrounding neighborhood. If any property were to show up in an interior design magazine, this one would certainly be it.

Rural Home on the Mekong River

For a group looking for a taste of Cambodia outside of a major city, this house is a dream. Located on the outskirts of Phnom Penh, this three-bedroom home has beautiful all-wood construction, a full multi-level deck area, and a swimming pool to die for. The royal palace is just thirty minutes away, but this home is a nice shelter from the bustle of the nearby city life. Taking a dip in the swimming pool and looking out over the river at sunset sounds much better to us.
