Description

The Space

Welcome to my cozy cabin. This is my full time home. The cabin was built in 1948 and originally only had an outhouse. I bought the place 5 years ago and had to use the outhouse for the first year. It is now hooked to sewer. Yay for flushing toilets! I have slowly been upgrading it and giving it my own special touch. I rent the cabin out when traveling for work, or pleasure, in hopes of paying for the upgrades I have done. It takes a great deal of work to live up here in the woods but worth it. I hope you enjoy the tranquil space I have created. I hope you don't have difficulty getting here. Please be aware of a few things: 1: Check in time is 3:00pm and check out time is 11:00am. Please talk to me if you need special times for check in and out. If the cabin is not reserved for that day I may be able to accommodate. 2: I've done my best to keep a clear parking spot and snow blow before arrival. However, I cannot predict the weather. Please be careful going in and out of front door and beware of roof avalanches. I have left a shovel by front door and one by the parking spot next to outhouse. The roads are plowed by the owner of Silver fork lodge. On big storm days it may take a minute for the roads to get plowed. 3: Please place all towels or anything I need to wash in the basket next to the counter. The garbage cans are in the cupboard to the left of the washer. 4: If you have minimal garbage in the can I can empty it. If you have large amounts of garbage please leave in one location by front door for me to take to dumpsters. If you are feeling generous then please take the garbage to the dumpsters that are on Silverfork drive as you drive out of the neighborhood. You will see them next to the mail boxes or there are two at the very bottom of canyon. 5: If you use the fire place please be careful when you open the door because sparks have been known to fly out and land on rug. Pulling the handle all the way out opens the flute. If you have the fire going please turn off all the base board heaters because it will get really hot in there. On the back of the stove by the plug is a blower switch if you would like that on to blow hot air. I usually fill the kettle on the stove with water to create moisture in the air since Utah is so dry. There is more wood stacked on the back of the porch. 6: If you need to use the euro/washer it takes about 2 hours to do a load of laundry. It goes directly from wash to dry. There are instructions on how to use the washer in the drawer next to the washer. 7: Unfortunately there is no internet service that I could get for the cabin. However, cell service and 4G services works well. If you need to get on laptop you can use wireless from your phone or Silverfork Lodge has free wifi and a cozy fire place to sit next to. 8: Silverfork Lodge serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Also, Solitude ski resort has several bars and resteraunts. They also have a very small store with minimal food and alcohol, but good for an emergency bottle of wine. Brighton ski resort also has Molly Greens resteraunt. Getting groceries at the base of big cottonwood is the best option before arrival. There is the necessities for cooking in the house and feel free to use any of the spices. There is a French press for making coffee. 9: Solitude is a short drive up the road. If you are daring enough and have snow shoes or crosscountry/backcountry skis go left on my road when you come out of the house and go to the end of the road where the huge million dollar home is. You will see tracks going up into the woods. If you follow those tracks it will take you through a nice hike through the trees where you will end up on a road. Take a left on the road and follow it up. It will take you to the base of the Eagle chair lift at Solitude. It takes about 10-15 minutes depending on how in shape you are. 10: The light for the loft can either be turned on downstairs by the stairs and upstairs in the far left corner by the window. I usually just use the remote control I have taped next to the light to turn on the lamps upstairs and then their is another white remote controller next to the bed to turn off while in bed. 1 turns on the lamp. 3 turns on the heater/fireplace in the loft. 11: As you can see there is an open loft with no railing. I am still in the process of finishing the loft staircase. Please be careful going up and down the stairs and perhaps leave a light on downstairs at night if you think you may stumble down them in the dark. Enjoy your stay, Linda Andrus

Guest Access

The entire house. This is an open loft cabin. Mind you it is 2 beds not bedrooms. Two beds in loft to accommodate 4 people. Huge couch can also sleep people if necessary.

Interaction with Guests

Please email me you're dates you would like to book and we can arrange if they are available. This is my personal home and I like to rent when I am traveling or during busy times.

The Neighborhood

Set back behind Silverfork Lodge and just below Solitude ski resort.

Getting Around

Silver fork Lodge restaurant and the ski resort is close for food. If you plan to cook buy groceries in Salt Lake before heading up big cottonwood canyon.

Other Things to Note

This is a cabin in the woods. The roads are plowed but in winter heavy snow can happen so be aware that 4 wheel or all wheel drive is a must. This is my personal home, not a typical (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) or vacation rental where the owners only use it once a year and don't leave personal items. This makes it feel more inviting and like you are staying in a friends home. I believe in Karma and have been pretty trusting of others in my personal space. I live here when I do not rent it out and therefore my personal photos and things are in the home. I hope people will respect this and leave things where they found them.

Millions of people are using Airbnb to sleep in strangers' homes, beds, and even couches. They have an amazing selection and you can't find their stuff anywhere else. There is a catch: you often need to contact several hosts to actually get a place to stay, so make sure you give yourself some lead time.

Place's rules

- Mind you there is an open loft in which little children would need to be supervised so they do not fall down the edge. I ask that people bring all their garbage to the dumpster below silver fork lodge. This is my home and of course ask for people to respect the space I have provided. Everyone that comes here loves it. Please no animals allowed. If you bring a dog into big cottonwood you could get fined because it is a water shed. Only locals that have a permit are allowed animals.
