The Neighborhood

Ocoee Nights #1 & #2 are two separate historic miners-cottages within a short stroll of each other owned by U.S. Olympic Gold Medalist Joe Jacobi and his wife (professional Americana musician.) The 2 cottages are the nearest accommodations to the Ocoee River whitewater rafting and paddling venue (and 1 hour from the Nantahala River) and 25 minutes from the brand new Casino in Murphy, North Carolina. The area is known for the gorgeous natural swimming areas of the upper Ocoee River & mountain bike riding - hiking trails in the Cherokee National Forest, fishing, paddling and tubing on the nearby Toccoa River, Hiawassee River and Parksville Lake. The small towns of Copperhill, TN - McCaysville, GA - Murphy, NC are within easy reach for great dining and antique/flea markets, shopping and incredible live music. These miners-style cottages are located where 3 states connect. Inexpensive, unique and lovely, and a much improved alternative to camping with its hot shower, kitchen and washer & dryer! Two tourist trains make their connection point in downtown Copperhill/McCaysville and are very popular with our families who are looking for extra activities beyond the outdoorsy sports. One train begins in Blue Ridge, Georgia (15 miles away) and the other train begins in Etowah, Tennessee. Ocoee Nights Cottage #1 is in the little farming community of Postelle on the outskirts of Ducktown, TN. It is one of 25 houses in the community that was once was a stop on the railway. Now, only the tourist train from Etowah, Tennessee can be heard on occasion as it passes by. Otherwise, crickets, bullfrogs, tree frogs and soaring hawks and an occasional noisy crow are the music of the area - there are dogs in the community who warn us all about coyotes, and sometimes there is a a hay tractor, and always there are fireworks on the 4th of July. Ocoee Nights #1 sits on three state lines of GA, TN & NC. If you go to Copperhill, TN - McCaysville, GA you'll find the state line painted diagonally across town. Along with it is a really good Mexican food restaurant El Rio, as well as Serenity Cafe on the River (oh, the river runs right through the middle of town) and check out the interesting shopping throughout the two towns. By the way, on Friday nights there is a huge auction in one of the buildings near the Steel Bridge. And just 10 miles further into Georgia is the fantastic little mountain town of Blue Ridge, GA with its zillions of shops, micro breweries, coffee shops (Love the Blue Ridge Market coffee shop) and restaurants such as the Blue Ridge Brewery, Harvest On Main, Black Sheep and Fightingtown Tavern. Ocoee Nights Cottage #1 is located is an active outdoor sports community of the Ocoee River Basin with the home being the closest accommodations to the whitewater river rafting and paddling on the nearby Ocoee River. The Ocoee River Olympic Venue is one of the first places you encounter when you drive to the river. If whitewater sports is not your cup of tea, there are ropes courses, hiking, strolling at the Olympic center sidewalks, wading, biking or how about swimming in some of the 2 dozen clear water swimming holes on the upper Ocoee River - aka the secret outdoor unadvertised activity of the area. Just ask anyone about Blue Hole and you'll get a big "in-the-know" smile. Great fun for the little ones! All the swimming holes are located on the easy to walk Copper Road Trail that starts at the Olympic Games venue. The trail is popular with mountain bikers, so if you are not on a bike yourself, step aside and let them pass. Take your dogs there -- as there is a great beach about 1/2 mile up the trail that is fun for throwing sticks into the water. Keep them on a long leash (we have to tell you that...) After your day in the Ocoee River area, stop at "Wildwater Rafting" on Hwy 64 between the Olympic Center and your accommodations. It has a fantastic pub and restaurant. You will be so surprised -- yet another local's secret! We hope you'll come for a visit, this area is terrific!

Getting Around

You'll need a car or a bike or a motorcycle or a horse... the nearest town is Ducktown about a mile away. But the nearest place with stuff, is Copperhill, which is 4 miles away.
