Our street is a main street, hence the area is very safe with constant people around! At night though it becomes very quiet (especially your room), perfect after a day of rest and relaxation.
Hurstville Grove is one of the best and safest suburbs in Sydney, ranked by (URL HIDDEN) as 9.3/10. It is extremely safe and the people are generally very respectable.
South of Hurstville Grove (in walkable distance) is where our two local creek drains into Connell's Bay, providing a beautiful area to enjoy (especially if you like fishing).
Renown Reserve, Bell Park, Quarry Reserve, and Poulton Park are all within walking distance, offering relaxing walks and picnics if you fancy.
Less than 1km from our place is Hurstville Central, featuring countless shops for your entertainment. Whether it be dining, shopping, or whatever else you'd enjoy (going to the gym, health treatments, etc.), it is all there!
About a 15 minute drive east is Brighton-le-Sand, one of Sydney's majestic gem. Brighton-le-Sand is a long stretch of sandy beaches, filled with life and opportunities for fun. It is also where many great Greek restaurants are located! A further 5-10 minutes or so is the airport, hence making this neighbourhood one of convenience!Getting Around
It is very convenient to get around from here. There are numerous bus stops up and down our street, taking you back and forth between Hurstville Central and our neighbouring suburbs south-west of us (where you can enjoy quiet private spots by the bays, wildlife at the many parks, or fishing at the local watering holes).
Walking to Hurstville Central is not a problem (it is about three-quarters of a kilometer away), so approximately 10 or so minutes by foot. There you can catch a train north into the city (approximately 20 minutes), the airport (25 minutes), or head straight to Bondi Junction, where you can then head to Bondi and other famous beaches in Sydney! Here, local Australian food abounds.
Head south, and you'll get to Miranda, Cronulla, and other bustling suburbs each with their own unique atmosphere. Further south and you can go to some of the most beautiful and still-to-be-discovered natural locations outside of the hustle and bustle of Sydney. The same direction will also take you to Wollongong ("The Gong"), a beautiful coastal city. It is just an hour and a half by train (direct, no transfers), so if you have time, plan a trip there. Drive, and it'll be just a mere hour or so. Not many places can boast that!
Our place is also a short drive to western suburbs such as Bankstown (20 or so minutse) and nearby areas, allowing you to easily savor authentic Vietnamese and Lebanese cuisines. Travel north(ish), and you instead head to Strathfield, heart of the Korean community.
If you are instead craving for Chinese food, then our local Hurstville area is the place to be!
Otherwise, to experience the multiculturality that is Sydney, simply hop on the train and get into the heart of the city. If you prefer to drive from our place, it would be about 30 minutes.Other Things to Note
Free street parking is available in front of our property. It is barely ever full, so there is no worries of having to park far away. As it is available 24/7, you do not have to worry about adhering to particular times anyways. We recommend that you drive around Sydney, it's just easier.
Although you can cook if you so like, it's easier to eat out around here, or get takeaway - we ourselves don't cook very often. If you do want to cook, just remember to clean up after yourselves.
Although there is air conditioning, it is centrally controlled and available in the main house (which you can use, but please be reasonable). Heating/cooling in your room is provided via either a heater or air conditioning cooler (those water/ice fans), the central air conditioning does not reach the basement room (your room).
Aside from the two of us (I am a PhD student at the University of New South Wales, and my wife is a financial consultant at Deloitte), there maybe other guests that share common areas as we have 2 more Airbnb rooms in our place.
