This is a charming, old style cottage in a rare outport. The views are stunning. You have full access to the house in this quaint village where people are friendly and helpful.Guest Access
The whole cottage!Interaction with Guests
We don't live in the community but we have arrangements with Marcella who was born here and has lots of local knowledge. She will make sure that you will get all settled and cosy. She is available via phone and lives just down the track. The Neighborhood
Gaultois truly is a unique, remote community with approximately 130 people. There is a school, town hall, library with free wifi access, post office and two general stores. The Gaultois Inn is open May to October for meals. We have a blog on wordpress "bluecharminn" that has lots of stories and photos about this community - a true hidden gem.
Being a genuine outport Gaultois is devoid of any commercialism, which is certainly a part of its charm, and there are no organised tourism activities. You will need to be prepared to amuse yourself by walking the tracks, stopping to have a yarn with people you meet on the way, they may initially be shy but are very friendly and generous in that idiosyncratic Newfoundlander way.Getting Around
You need to drive down the Bay d'espoir Hwy Route 360 - take turn off to Hermitage Route 364 then ferry across to Gaultois and Long Island . If you are traveling via public transport please contact us for more details. This place is great for walking so bring good shoes. In winter there are snowshoe (we have two pairs - large and medium you can use with walking stocks)and snow mobile tracks. In summer you can kayak or use water crafts in the harbour or large ponds.Other Things to Note
You can't bring your car here. The ferry is passenger only. There are tracks for walking and ATV's only. You can park your car safely in Hermitage.
There is good cell phone connection but no internet at cottage.
