The Space

My neighborhood, Belhaven, was named one of the Top 10 Neighborhoods in the United States in October 2014, by the American Planning Association. This is a charming 1939 cottage, and I offer you, if you are 21 and older, a private room with a queen bed and one bath, to share. The room is a cheery yellow with three windows and a queen-size bed, always fitted with crisp, soft cotton sheets. There is a ceiling fan. Don't worry about towels, as I provide them. Forgot your shampoo? Relax, I have some for you. If you have any special requests, please let me know, and I will try to accommodate. In your room, you will find a television, and I have high-speed fiber-optic cable. There is plenty of free parking on the street. Please fill out your profile completely and include a photo, ESPECIALLY if you have no or only one or two reviews. You must be at least 21 years of age. I will not make arrangements for lodging outside of Airbnb. Thank you!

Guest Access

You will have access to all common areas of the house, and in nice weather, I hope you will enjoy the front porch.

Interaction with Guests

Depending on my schedule, as well as yours, I might be available to show you around town. I am always available, though, to answer questions and make suggestions.

The Neighborhood

Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, Belhaven is an older neighborhood, located in the heart of Jackson. Comfy Room is about three miles from I-20 and even closer to I-55. I am a few blocks from Belhaven University, Millsaps College, the University of Mississippi Medical Center (UMMC) and Baptist Hospital and an easy drive to St. Dominic Hospital. There are new and very good restaurants in Belhaven, and the Eudora Welty Home Museum is a few blocks away. Just beyond UMMC is Fondren, a neighborhood with galleries, restaurants and shops. I am also in close vicinity to downtown Jackson. Nearby are several parks and museums: Le Fleur's Bluff State Park, the Mississippi Children's Museum, Mississippi Museum of Natural Science, the Mississippi Sports Hall of Fame and the Mississippi Agricultural and Forestry Museum. Other attractions include the Mississippi Museum of Art, the Old Capitol Museum (c. 1839), as well as the new Capitol building (c. 1903); The Oaks House Museum, the antebellum home of an early Jackson mayor; the Natchez Trace Parkway, great music at interesting venues and some very nice restaurants.

Getting Around

I highly recommend a car, and there is plenty of free parking on the street in front of the house. Jackson lacks a wide array of public transportation. There is bus service in my neighborhood, four or five blocks from my house. It runs in the morning and the afternoon but not in the middle of the day. There is no bus service in this neighborhood on weekends.

Other Things to Note

Please fill out your profile completely and include a photo, ESPECIALLY if you have no or only one or two reviews. Please keep the door locked, even when inside the house.

Millions of people are using Airbnb to sleep in strangers' homes, beds, and even couches. They have an amazing selection and you can't find their stuff anywhere else. There is a catch: you often need to contact several hosts to actually get a place to stay, so make sure you give yourself some lead time.

Place's rules

I am fairly laid back and have only a few ground rules. *I work 8 a.m.-5 p.m., so check-in time is when I get home or when I take my lunch hour, which is flexible. *Check out is at 11 a.m., but I will be happy to work with you if you need a place to keep your bags for the afternoon. *No smoking. *Please let me know if you would like to use the kitchen to prepare a snack or light meal. I ask that guests clean up after themselves and put dishes in the dishwasher. *Please no food in the room. *Please keep the door locked, even if someone is inside. *No pets, with the possible exception of a clean and well-behaved dog. *Absolutely no illegal drugs or firearms. *Please wipe feet well when coming inside. *If you damage or break anything, or if you have any problem, please let me know immediately. *Please be considerate to my furniture: no wet items on wood, and, to avoid scratches, please set hard items on something else. *If you stay at Comfy Room for three nights or more, please feel free to use the washer and dryer, but let me explain how. For shorter visits, a load of wash is $5.00. *Jackson does not recycle glass, but we do recycle plastics 1 and 2 and clean paper. Thank you!
