The Space Enjoy our cabin, the "Loon's Nest", on Lake Clear, just 10 miles from Saranac Lake. Located on Rt. 30 in Lake Clear, there is easy access to lots of outdoor fun and adventure.
Cabin has one bedroom and 1.5 baths. Full bath has a tub/shower combo, half-bath has a stacking washer/dryer. Bedroom has a Queen sized Select Comfort bed with memory foam top, a sliding glass door to a small deck with a view of the lake. Full size comfortable futon on enclosed porch can be closed off for privacy. Sofa in Living room folds out into a full sized bed. Kitchen is small, but well equipped, basic spices, condiments and all kitchen utensils provided. Gas Grill is on the deck. We have basic cable, a DVD player, MP3 player/radio and Wi-Fi. This is a fully insulated and centrally heated home, we lived here year round for three years while building our current home.
There are books to browse and a large mounted map to help you plan your adventures and lots of brochures and guides with things to do and places to go.
We are five minutes from the St. Regis Canoe area boat launch, Paul Smith's Adirondack interpretive Center with hiking trails when there is no snow, snowshoeing and skiing when there is snow, and activities 10 minutes away. It is 15 minutes to Saranac Lake, 30 to Lake Placid and 25 minutes to Tupper Lake. In the Winter the train tracks in front of the cabin turn into a snowmobile route when the snow is deep enough. It isn't very busy, and makes a great cross country ski and snowshoe route. There are backcountry ski trails nearby. The Paul Smith's VIC has groomed and skier-packed trails, and frequently has more snow than Mt. Van Hovenberg ski area. Whiteface Mountain and Titus Mountain are each about 45 minutes away.
Whether it's relaxing and catching up on your reading, watching the beautiful lake, sunsets, and surrounding forests, exploring Saranac Lake, Tupper Lake, Lake Placid, Olympic venues and the High Peaks, antiquing, shopping, or just listening to the haunting call of the loons, this cabin is a great place to venture out from - or just stay put! Catch a play at the local Pendragon Theater, or events at the Lake Placid Center for the Arts. You'll find gift and craft shops, Farmer's markets, art galleries, antiques stores, plenty of restaurants and some of the best golf in the Northeast.
This is not an isolated cabin, there are neighbors across the street, and it is right on Rt. 30. The speed limit is 40 MPH. The road is quiet in the evening and at night. It's not a busy road by suburban or city standards. In the Winter when the plow goes by (not late at night unless it is snowing) it does shake the house a bit!
Our lake front is accessed by walking over railroad tracks, there are steps up to the tracks, and down to the lake front. The train tracks are not currently in use save for the occasional NYS DOT truck going by.
We have no dock or mooring, nor is there anywhere to launch a boat that can't be hand carried. There is no public boat launch on our lake, which makes it pretty quiet. Boats are available for rent in Saranac Lake for use on the Saranac chain of lakes, which are close by if you'd like to be out on a boat with a motor, and it's a beautiful trip.
We have good swimming at our site, but not a big beach. If you want the beach experience there is a nice one with lots of sand and sun at the other end of the lake, only a 2 mile drive or paddle.
In the Winter we clear snow from the parking area, walkway and decks prior to your arrival. Once you are here you may need to shovel the walkway, and the parking spots where the plow deposits snow. Our neighbor will plow the driveway when your vehicle is gone. If there is a big storm while you are here we will come and help you dig out if needed.
Linens and towels are provided. Guest Access The entire cabin excluding the basement. The shed under the deck has chairs, paddles and life jackets, and fire starter. There is a row boat, kayak and canoe for your use, and a fire ring in the yard. Interaction with Guests We will meet you when you arrive, give you the key, show you a few things and answer any questions you might have. Then we leave you to enjoy your stay, checking in by email or text to make sure all is well. We live only a few miles away, and can be easily reached if anything is needed.
By prior arrangement we can be available for dog walks, or to lead hikes, paddling or snowshoe outings. The Neighborhood The lake is the best thing about our neighborhood. Neighbors keep to themselves, most are year round residents. In the summer months a nearby rental cabin has their beach near ours, and you might meet their guests. You can walk down to the Lake Clear outlet and look for otters and fish from the bridge. In winter you can ski and snowshoe on the railroad tracks right out the door. Getting Around No public transit here. Adirondack International Airport is right up the road, direct flights from Boston's Logan airport come in 4 times daily. We can pick you up and take you to the airport if needed. Other Things to Note Though we clean the cabin between users, dogs do spend time in the cabin. Dogs allowed only with prior approval, 2 dogs maximum, must be at least 2 years old. ...
