There is diversity of volcanic and geothermal activity in the area with open fissures, faults and magnificent beauty spanning over a large area. Earthquakes are frequent due to the movement of the tectonic plates although mostly minor, some can be felt across the entire peninsula. No need to fear, Icelandic houses are built to withstand these earthquakes.
