Description

The Space

A modern one bed apartment in the absolute heart of the CBD overlooking the Second Empire style Neoclassical Melbourne Town Hall built in 1870. At just under 50 sq m (Melbourne inner city apartments are generally not as large as in suburbia and space is a premium) it is equipped for stays for one or two people. Features include comfortable queen size bed, Euro galley kitchen and contemporary bathroom. With public transport, restaurants, bars and much more at the doorstep, it is convenient to everything Melbourne city has to offer from 'Paris' end Collins St. shopping, to the Arts Precinct and Laneway coffee and food - it's all at your doorstep or within 10-15 minute walk. The Capitol Theatre building is heritage listed and as such, the original features such as the huge windows, and interior column detailing dating from 1924 are there to appreciate in original condition as a contrast to the more recent interior renovations and modernisation. The heritage listing also exerts it own challenges for owners and requires us to respect the original fabric of the building - such things as windows and walls cannot be altered and remain a beautiful and tangible reflection of times long past. The space is also a reflection of my life philosophy of "less is more". Clearing out superfluous items, walking/cycling or public transporting, and living in a space that is no larger than it needs to be for my needs - is benefiting the health of the planet and my own wellbeing. It is also an ideal way to live for those needing to travel frequently or perhaps just to love the feeling of freedom that comes with this lifestyle. I hope you enjoy as much as I do - the subtle patina of history that the space exudes and that is served so well by the convenience and aesthetics of the surrounding 'borrowed' landscape - the wonderful facades and 'living rooms' of the city, and its excellent transportation systems. Please enjoy my humble abode!

Guest Access

Fully furnished including TV, fast wifi/internet is also set up for streaming YouTube and other eligible internet channels (ie. You can log into your Netflix, Stan etc from your smart phone) through Chromecast and the TV. A good range of DVD's is provided or play your music library from your smart phone through the quality speaker system. Euro washer/dryer combo, Microwave, Fridge, Gas Cook Top, Electric oven, Toaster, Electric kettle, Cooking utensils, crockery and cutlery, clean and luxurious 800 tc linen and all other bedding. Iron and ironing board. Hairdryer.

Interaction with Guests

You will have the apartment to yourself but I or my 'helper' are available if you need assistance or information. I will meet you to hand over the keys and am available at other times by phone or email. I will respect your privacy unless you specifically ask. Though I reserve the right to enter (in line with Airbnb policy) I will not do so without advising.

The Neighborhood

Your first breakfast is on me if you want to stay 'in'! Cereals, croissants, fresh fruit, and milk are provided - or there are plenty of local alternatives a minute or two walk if you have a little more time. HOWEVER - Melbourne is internationally renowned for its food scene and brunch is an institution. Melbourne will only reveal its best to those who do a little curious research and get out and into it! Laneway cafes are within a short walk and offer great food from breakfast to dinner. DeGraves Street and Centre Place are famous for their cafe's and are only a 5 minute walk away. Federation Square is a short 6 minute walk and underground there you will find the Melbourne Visitor Centre for all your tourist information and booking needs. Drop by the Arts Precinct to catch a show or an exhibition or go shopping and eating to your hearts content. Currency exchange tellers and banks are in close proximity. There's a huge and diverse array of sights to see and things to do in Melbourne so I have provided a list of recommendations and brochures for your information. The Tourist Information Centre is 5-6 minutes walk away for extra help. I have also added a number of recommendations to the Guidebook, from top end restaurants and classy cocktails, Asian bao zi, and jao zi to 'eat and runs' and much more! Check it out! (NOTE: all times are derived from GMaps walking directions and will vary according to your individual capacity)

Getting Around

From Tullamarine Airport you can take the fast and efficient Skybus to Southern Cross Station, then short taxi ride or Skybus Shuttle (free if you have taken Skybus) to the nearest hotel to the apartment - Westin on corner of Swanston and Collins or The Causeway in Howey Place - or other at their discretion. Skybus tickets can be purchased ahead of time online. Alternatively take a taxi direct to apartment from the airport. SkyBus runs express between Melbourne Tullamarine Airport and Southern Cross Station, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The service takes approximately 20 minutes to get from the airport to the city centre. SkyBus runs every 10 minutes from 6am to 11pm and every 15 to 30 minutes at other times. A single Skybus return ticket costs around $36.00 or $18.00 per adult one way (please check Skybus online for most recent pricing). Taxi from Airport to CBD is around fifty-sixty Australian dollars(URL HIDDEN) Sightseeing: From the apartment its a short 300m (6 minute) walk to the main transport hub at Flinders Street Station. Trams near apartment building front entrance on Swanston Street (at corner of Bourke St or at corner of Collins St) for direct connections to famous Lygon Street one way (Tram 8) and the other way to St Kilda and the beaches, Chapel Street shopping and much more. Two guest MYKI transport cards (train, trams and buses) are provided for your convenience and can be topped up at nearby 711 stores. PLEASE NOTE: No parking lot is provided with the apartment but there is no need for a car for the main city attractions. If you are bringing a car please let me know and I can help with overnight parking options. And if you do use a car please be sure to check Melbourne's driving regulations as, due to the trams, these are a little different to most cities.

Other Things to Note

PLEASE NOTE: As with most inner city locations there is potential for some outside noise. Please consider carefully whether a suburban location (away from tram routes) may suit your needs better. Provisions: Bath towels provided (I supply fresh linen & towels once every 7 days of your stay and we do not change the bed linens or clean the apartment during your stay, unless specifically agreed at the time of booking - extra charges may apply). Body and hand wash are supplied as well as shampoo, conditioner, makeup remover pads, and a hairdryer. Fresh fruit, milk and OJ. Heating - 'Space' heating, wall mounted. Ceiling fans plus portable cooler for December to March. Booking: I would be very appreciative if you could provide some information about yourself when requesting a booking, especially if you have not been reviewed on Airbnb. And please let me know asap if you decide not to go ahead with an enquiry would be very much appreciated as the apartment is in demand due to the location. Thanks!

Millions of people are using Airbnb to sleep in strangers' homes, beds, and even couches. They have an amazing selection and you can't find their stuff anywhere else. There is a catch: you often need to contact several hosts to actually get a place to stay, so make sure you give yourself some lead time.
