The Space

The tiny McAuley Cottage was built in 1890, but has been fully renovated with water, power, kitchen and bath. The total size of the house is 1100 sqft.

Guest Access

Full house and the full use of kitchen. Washer and dryer also available.

Interaction with Guests

We try to meet all of our guests to give them a quick tour as they arrive, but beyond that, we will only come by if they need assistance during their stay.

The Neighborhood

Oakleigh is easily one of the best neighborhoods in Mobile. Just blocks away from downtown; it's quick and easy to get anywhere you need to. A block away from the house is Callaghan's, an Irish Pub that boasts the best Bacon Cheeseburger in Alabama. A few blocks to the west is Cream & Sugar, a delightful coffee shop with a wide variety of sweet pastries. This is an urban environment and there are some sketchy neighbors to the south and east and foot traffic, so you won't want to leave valuables visible in your car.

Getting Around

Bus #9 (Broad St, South Side) stops half a block away from the house. Passes every hour on the : (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) pm M-F and 6:45pm-9:45pm Sat) to go downtown South Bound will take you to Bel Air Mall and passes just after 0:05 of each hour) Cost: 1.25 (exact change suggested, but they do offer a change card for future bus use) transfers are $0.10 and expire in 2 hours) (Website hidden by Airbnb) for maps and schedules Taxi: Trips to downtown cost about $5 (Yellow Cab: (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) ) LYFT/UBER: Both Lyft and Uber operate in Mobile and are quite reasonable Cost: $23 to Airport, $3-5 to downtown For new Lyft users get $20 credit with offer code "911augusta" For new Uber users get $15 off your first ride by using code: "benb4107ue"

Other Things to Note

I have 1 TV and super basic cable in SD (no ESPN). The parking is on-street. It's a pretty quiet neighborhood, but we do get some foot traffic from surrounding rougher neighborhoods.

Millions of people are using Airbnb to sleep in strangers' homes, beds, and even couches. They have an amazing selection and you can't find their stuff anywhere else. There is a catch: you often need to contact several hosts to actually get a place to stay, so make sure you give yourself some lead time.
