The Space

Set in the grounds of Smithy's Garden, this well equipped 2 bedroom one bathroom open plan apartment with balcony and sundeck is ideal for two to four persons. Doors and windows have screens. The open plan living space with folding doors and ceiling fans, connect the breezy living area and the breakfast bar of the kitchen with the garden views of the balcony and sundeck. Cable TV and WiFi are included The bathroom has hot and cold running water in the shower and the apartment has its own water tank. You have your own private entrance, (lower green gates), driveway and parking space. We suggest you print internet maps in advance with details of our location... Smithy's Garden You will find this cool apartment very welcoming after a hot day at the beach. Open up the doors, switch on the fans and enjoy living areas of the tropics! Close enough by car, to the shops and restaurants in St George's and the beaches at Grand Anse, but high enough in the hills at 800ft to catch the cooling breezes and feel that you are almost in the rain-forest. Grenada is a volcanic island with the highest peak being 2757ft. Relative to this our location is considered the suburbs! A drive of less than 10 to 15 mins connects you with most places of interest. Fort Frederick is only a mile or a power walk away. LaPhere Bleu and Port Louis restaurants are a ten minute drive away as is Castaway Restaurant at Clarke's Court Marina. If you plan on exploring Grenada and need a base, you may well choose to stay with us! While several of our guests choose to rent a car for some or all of their stay, some others used the local transport. If you need any recommendations on where to visit or what to do, please ask. Guest Access

If you choose to rent a car like most of our guests do, look for a wooden sign marked "Smithy's Garden" !!! You have your own gated entrance (lower green gate) and private parking space. You are welcome to walk around the garden and to enjoy it. We will share our available fresh fruit with you. Fruit in season are typically mangoes, plums and pineapples as well as papaya and of course bananas and limes. Please take the time to read our brief information manual when you settle in. To help you discover Grenada the flat has maps, a telephone directory and information on Grenada for Visitors. If you need any further assistance, just ask. We are next door, but will respect your privacy. If you must smoke we ask that you do so in the veranda and not indoors, as a courtesy to other non smoking guests coming after you. Please keep your lower outer gate closed at all times. This will help us to keep our pets safe. Thanks in advance for you cooperation and understanding on this. KEEPING COOL Please make use of the fans and open up the windows to keep cool, please do not abuse the a/c in the bedrooms by trying to cool the flat with it, you will run the risk of having to pay to replace it. The louvered doors and windows in the flat work well with the fans to keep the apartment cool and the screens will help to keep flying insects away in the evenings.

Interaction with Guests

It is up to you, we are flexible....... You can be totally private. We are your nearest neighbours if you need us. We will respect your privacy..... If you need help please just ask. Everyone you meet at Smithy's garden, like all Grenadians, will be happy to chat with you and to help you discover all the wonderful things that Grenada has to offer. We will give you (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) maps of our location and we recommend that you print maps of the whole of Grenada before you visit as you may find that the ones available locally are not very detailed! We will be happy to give you directions if you need them or to recommend favorite picnic spots, restaurants or bars. If you have appointments and are not on vacation then we recommend you rent a car before arrival. If you need assistance with this we can help. While a few of our guests chose to use public transport, if you plan on eating out at night, you will not be able to return by bus after 8:00pm, and would need to take a taxi or perhaps plan to rent a vehicle for some of your stay. If you would like us to purchase advance groceries or a start up breakfast pack for you we would be happy to do so - just let us have your list and we can settle up on arrival. We hope that at the end of your stay you will have made a connection with us and would return again as a friend! Our house is on premises but we respect your privacy at all times.

The Neighborhood

Morne Jaloux ridge is a residential area just one mile from Fort Frederick and three miles from the historic capitol St George's. Cooled by easterly trade winds, and just 800 ft. above sea level, this location is ideal and safe. 100 yards up the road from Smithy's is the local bus stop where you can take the 10 min drive to St George's if you want to mingle with Grenadians, visit the museum or shop for local produce in the colorful market. Travel once on the bus and the driver and conductor will know your stop on the return! Less than a mile away is Woburn where there is a lovely lookout for shore birds. In the garden are a variety of birds as well, several hummers and the spectacled thrush as well as a variety of doves. Anoli lizards are frequent visitors to the veranda as they live in the garden. They are harmless. This lovely residential area is best suited to vacationers who like renting cars and scooters or taking taxis or waiting for local buses who seem to have their own individual time table. All buses go into St George's where a transfer bus can take you to other destinations around the island. Buses are therefore probably not very practical if you have appointments to keep.

Getting Around

In a rental vehicle Grand Anse beach is less than 10 minutes away, en route is Grenada Distillers, home of Clarkes Court rum as well as picturesque Hog and Calivigni islands. Within walking distance of your accommodation are village shops selling basic items. The main super-markets in Grand Anse are close to the beach and you probably will make a habit of doing your shopping there after a swim and a lime at Umbrellas Beach bar on Grand Anse beach. Venture further and you will discover Morne Rouge Beach and several restaurants selling wonderful dishes, some made with Grenada's fresh fish and Lobster. Mt Hartman dove sanctuary and Woburn wetlands are also en route to Grand Anse. There are several supermarkets and restaurants in St George's as well, some on the waterfront and others very close to the main bus terminal and fish market. The local buses are privately owned and seem to run on timetables of their own...if time is not an issue for you, you may find that traveling on a bus is a great way to experience Grenada as a local and the fares are very inexpensive - EC$3 -EC$5.

Other Things to Note

Breakfast can be provided Monday to Friday at an additional charge of US$10pppd (fruit toast eggs etc or a Grenadian Breakfast of bakes and salt-fish souse with fruit from the garden. ) If you would like a cooked meal, please discus this with Leiber and you can make arrangements with her to cook you a local meal or two. She would be happy to do this for a small fee. Vehicle rentals run at US$65 per day plus security deposit CDW insurance and local driver's permit Weekly rates are around $360 and this can be booked through Airbnb or we can help you do this. A taxi from the Airport/Grand Anse is around US$25-$30 If you have to visit business places or Government offices, long trousers and short sleeves are proper attire, as swim suits and skimpy attire in town are a no-no. As hosts, we know Grenada, Carriacou and many of the surrounding islands well and are happy to help you plan your day's activities. Banks are open Monday to Friday only, from 8am - 2pm on most days. US or EC dollars are accepted island wide. We will provide you with tourist information as well as give you insider information to make you feel at home and to ensure that you see as much of the island as you would like to, and more.

Place's rules

Smoking - if you must smoke please do so in the veranda as a courtesy to nonsmokers arriving after you. - smoking allowed in open areas only. Help us to save electricity, switch off lights fans and the water pump when not in use or when you are going out thank you! Please keep your bottom green gate at the entrance closed at all times. --- thanks a million! The a/c in the bedroom must only be used with the window and the bedroom door shut. Please do not abuse the a/c in the bedroom, it is not designed to cool the flat down - you will run the risk of having to pay to replace the unit if you try and /or we will be forced to charge you a penalty of US$200 extra for trying. KEEPING COOL IN THE TROPICS: Please use the fans, open up the louvered doors and windows and let down the blinds in the veranda to shade the afternoon sun - you will find the flat comfortably cool using this method.
