Lovely small dikehouse; one of the oldest monuments in this part of Rotterdam. Nicely renovated, respecting ancient details. Great kitchen, also for meetings (10 pers) . 5 min. (walk) from watertaxi that will take you to the center. 10 min. by bike.
When we renovated this beautiful but relatively small dikehouse, our vision was (and is) that it gives the most comfort and shows it's beauty best by not parting it in small spaces. That's why we made it open and transparent. The lay out of the three floors is really basic and clear: no small rooms and obstacles, just open space where you see the beautiful old walls, windows and beamed ceiling. All three floors are connected by the old open hall with stairs. So you could say the house is a vertical loft.
The deepest floor (partly in the dike) is the great kitchen which we use for more than cooking. The beamer is here and you can plug in your phone or Ipod for music. The kitchen is a very nice place to sit, enjoy and be together at the large table with 10 chairs. The kitchen floor has a beautiful view on the old church ring. Also the toilet, the only one in the house, is here on this kitchen floor.
Right outside the kitchen is a nice place to sit outside. Just put the small cafe-table outside, make coffee and enjoy the morning-sun... (or -rain and use your imagination)
The first floor is at dikelevel. It is a combi of a living room and sleeproom; there is a TV with cable and a nice comfortable sofa. Also there are 2 beds (which you can put together as one off course).
The second and top floor is a romantic bedroom with a beautiful luxues round bed (220 diameter). The original wooden beams are lovely and the roof windows provide a light and clear atmosphere. On this floor is also the shower. Guest Access
The kitchen with ceramic stove for 3 pans (originally 4, but one of them does not work). Also the oven does not work at this time, we are looking for a replacement, but now this is the situation).
Beamer in kitchen; you can connect your laptop, there is an adepter cable for dvi (mac)
Basics in the kitchen: We put some basic supplies like good olive oil, coffee and tea in the kitchen. (we own a delishop and restaurant 'de zeeuwse hemel' in Zierikzee, so you'll get good stuff. For this you can give a small voluntary donation, so we can refill the bottles etc.
Floor heating in kitchen (so good to walk on warm beton on your bare feet in the morning!!!)
Good wine glasses.
TV with cable on first floorInteraction with Guests
We enjoy meeting our guests very much so we (my wife Monique or I) try to meet you ourselves to give the key etc. But we will not always be able to do this, cause we live in Zeeland (Zierikzee) and are running our own restaurant and shop there (de Zeeuwse Hemel), so sometimes we will ask a friend to meet you. Off course you can always sms or call with questions etc.The Neighborhood
Oud-Charlois is a secret pearl in Rotterdam, which used to be an old village centuries ago. Especially the small part of the neighborhood where our house is, is really authentic and there are still not too many tourists. Which has practical benefits (you can still park here for free!) and the shops are original. There are many cultures in the shops (Turkish Baker, Marrokan vegetables, etc.) which is nice, cause it's cheap and good quality. By car, bus or watertaxi (which is great fun!!) you are in the centre of Rotterdam in 5 minutes. By bike or even walking (through the monumental Maastunnel under the water, built in 1939) you are in the centre in 15 minutes.
Oud-Charlois is really close to the industrial big harbor and it harvests both many artists and galleries as local people from various cultures. In our house we put some brochures and tips for you about Rotterdam and the places we love!Getting Around
At the end of the street (with your back standing to the house, you go left) there is a buss stop. Busses stop here many times every hour to bring you to the centre or to the south (for example to Ahoy in 10 minutes where the concerts like the North Sea Jazz Festival are and many other events.
When you walk in the other direction, you find the watertaxi which brings you to the centre and all kinds off nice spots really fast.
You take this watertaxi at 'Charlois Hoofd'. You make a reservation (or book direct) by cal(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)
