The Space

Please read the listing in full before booking. The cottage is off the grid (which means there are NO power lines at all down the road) and produce our own electricity with a small solar panel set up and backup generators for days for extended stays during rainy days. You do not have to worry about starting the generators as we will maintain that during your stay if needed. All other appliances such as hot water heater, the fridge, and the stove are run off of propane. We have a wood stove for cooler fall nights that's warm and cozy this is the only source of heat and only for those that are familiar with using wood stoves! Old rustic tung oil rubbed wood kitchen floor, and tiled floors in all the other rooms allows us to keep the place naturally cool in the summer without the use of an air conditioner which we couldn't power anyways with our tiny solar set up. ( It really does stay cool unless it's a 90 something outside) For restful nights sleep there's a Queen Size comfortable bed with your choice of pillows some natural organic buckwheat hulls or wool pillows to choose from. Full size bunk beds in the adjoining second bedroom. (Please only allow children age 10 and over on top bunk) There is a closet that joins the two bedrooms together and there are no doors on the closet just curtains... There's organic freshly ground coffee we grind, no coffee maker (it's fresh drip coffee! ) along with teas, salt, pepper, organic sugar, and fresh well water filtered with our large filtration system. Plenty of cook wear if you decide to eat in, as well as a large lobster pot. Local restaurant suggestions located in the guest book. Comfortable linens are supplied as well as soaps and shampoos. Our location is perfect for those that want to be resting in a natural setting and have quick access to all things fun! PLEASE NOTE: Some guest have given us a lower rating on location...The cottage is located 1/2 mile down a private dirt road, there are bumps on private maintained dirt roads, we are in SURRY. Please look up the distance to the location you would like to visit. We are not in control of traffic into Acadia which can take more than an hour and half or more during the summer seasons at different times of the days, and other times it can take you 30 min. Our listing is clear where we are located. If this location will not suit your needs please PLEASE DO NOT BOOK. We want our guests to have an outstanding vacation for the price, cleanliness and location, that is why I have typed as many details for you to review before booking. We do not want you to be disappointed nor do we like to see star lower star rating on the value and location of your experience, never hesitate to ask any questions before booking, arrival, and during your stay. You are in the woods on a dirt road, you are not in a downtown area. Please understand that when booking and read the listing over again before you arrive, so you are not disappointed. I make every honest effort to inform you of everything I would want to know about a listing, it's very detailed, and if you have ANY questions at all, please feel free to contact me, I will be sure to be in touch with you;) There's a great beach 15 minutes away. There is great cell phone reception, there are NO phone lines, power lines, t.v, internet, microwave, toaster, hairdryer, washer or dryer. We have a few games, books, and children's toys. Hot irons, curling, blow dryers, crockpots, electric griddles and anything that uses heat as an appliance are NOT allowed as this is a small solar battery system that could cause damage to the batteries. I really enjoy maikng people feel welcome and if there's anything within the cottage that you need, please feel free to call or text;)

Guest Access

The home is all yours for your stay! It sits on 10 acres of land in the woods. You will have access to plenty of parking in front of the house, room for 4 vehicles, please don't park on the grass. There is a small convenient store a mile from the home. As well as a homemade icecream parlor. You are 10 min. from grocery stores, hospitals, restaurants, laundry mats etc. Please locate Surry on a map and track the distance to all the spots you would like to visit so you understand again where the location is.

Interaction with Guests

We live on the same dirt road further down, yet not visible to our guests. Most check ins I will be available to meet you, though you are more than welcome to check yourself in with the lockbox. We like our privacy that's why we choose to live here down in the woods. Please feel free to contact me at all hours as I am available to all my guests for any questions, concerns or needs that arise! I want you to enjoy an awesome vacation and feel comfortable in your vacation space. We have done lots of traveling all over New England ourselves using Airbnb and we don't ever like surprises after we arrive, we don't want you to haveto have any surprises either!;)

The Neighborhood

There are 4 houses on the entire rd. One house with our friendly quiet neighbors at the entrance to the road. The cottage that you would be resting in, and a vacant cottage partially visible to you that is for sale. The cottage is 1/2 mile down a bumpy dirt road, if you are unsure if your vehicle will have trouble getting down here please ask me before hand, though most all vehicles have no problem getting down the road. There are numerous swimming spots and hiking trails all within 5-15 min. I am available via text or call and can direct you to these locations. Yes you will notice we have an old shed that's starting to fall apart that the solar panels sit on, and yes we have an old vacant goat and chicken house... a compost pile, and a garden spot. We don't have a perfect manicured lawn it's more of a mowed yard with various wild flowers and wild edibles scattered around, stumped trees and a forest to farm field being worked on 2017. We live a few thousand feet through the woods and raise various animals such as goats, chickens, rabbits and livestock guardian dogs, and due to this we ask that you DO NOT allow your dog outside without being on a leash and while you are home. What we also do have here are amazing starry nights, with sounds of frogs and birds. If you love the beauty of nature and waking to lots of natural sunlight and birds, possible sounds of coyotes in the night and or dogs barking, and don't mind driving 1/2 mile down a bumpy dirt road and want to live a little more eco conscious in a comfortable place with nice linens then you will likely enjoy your stay! You are only 10-15 min. from 2 hospitals, grocery stores, restaurants, art shops, antique shops, and less then an hour from Acadia National park. We have a new ice cream shop in Surry called Pugnuts they serve ice-cream all made right there. If you're like me and can't eat dairy they have 3-4 delicious options such as coconut, chocolate (it taste like a fudge bar!) If you will be in Ellsworth on Main St. and need ice-cream again, you must try Morton's Moo as well! They also have dairy free sorbet options that are fruity and tangy...they also make their own gluten free waffle cones! PLEASE again look up where you will be staying and the listing in detail, it's up to you to determine if this cottage stay suits your expectations of a great vacation and where it's located and the value of what you experience.

Getting Around

You will most definitely need a vehicle to get around this area and surrounding Maine. Our road is a dirt road with numerous bumps and at times after a heavy rain there will be a mud puddles! There isn't any public transportation besides a taxi which still are not common in this area of Maine, so you will need a vehicle.

Other Things to Note

Note that at this time we are not accepting bookings without previous reviews. You will need to be aware of your power usage, no hot irons, blow dryers or curling irons of any sorts can be used or anything that requires heat draw is not gentle on the battery system. We do have 2 backup generators and can walk you through the steps for use if needed be, though we will be there to start them up anytime you need if your stay is longer than a few days and or your stay is rainy overcast. So far we have not had to do this for guests. The generators are only needed usually during numerous days of rain and if you use lots of water and lights. For a group of four taking a 15. min. or less shower and using only 2 to 3 lights in the evening for no more than 3-4 hours will keep you from running out of power. We do not give refunds in the event you use too much power. We really ask that you be aware of your usage and you should be perfectly fine! We will usually always be home as well and can come and start the generators if needed, we are always a phone call or text away! This really awakens the understanding of acquiring a conscious effort to conserve water and electricity. We have been living without power lines, t.v, phone line for 10 years and haven't looked back! PLEASE NOTE: 2017 spring, summer, and fall brings the ten acres to be tilled and planted, there are bare patches in the lawn area needed to be seeded, as well there will be a skid steer and possible other small equipment working on the land during the hours between 9m-5pm. If this will be of a bother to you, you should not book with us this year, as this is a project homestead in the works;). We absolutely love animals and do allow a well behaved dog, as long as your dog does not get onto any furniture, not even if you bring your own linens to cover it. If we smell or notice an abundance of fur or animal odor directly on the furnishings you will be charged from your deposit. Please be sure your dog remains on a leash at all times in the yard or a tie out while you are home, as we have children playing outside nearby, goats, free ranging chickens, rabbits and most importantly livestock guarding dogs that live 24/7 with these animals to protect them. They see ither animals that do not live here a possible threat to their livestock. Though all these animals are not visible to you, at times you may see me on a goat walk;) hear protective barking from a distance in the evenings and sometimes during the day, and a rooster crowing in the early morning. Please let me know If you are considering bringing your dog, there are 2 dog beds available and a large dog crate as well. We would appreciate that you please do not bring any bleaching products for the skin, hair, teeth, or cleaning products that have bleaching abilities. We have had several towels and pillowcases get bleached out in spots after guests have left. We really hate to have to withold a replacement cost for such items out of the security deposit. Thanks for understanding!

Millions of people are using Airbnb to sleep in strangers' homes, beds, and even couches. They have an amazing selection and you can't find their stuff anywhere else. There is a catch: you often need to contact several hosts to actually get a place to stay, so make sure you give yourself some lead time.
