The Space

This space integrates fine wood work and new floors with charming details such as a distinctive hand hewn cross beam easily 100 or more years old. The LED lighting adds a warm ambience, while the windows and sliding glass doors let the sun pour in and allow for a panoramic view of the mountains of Acadia National Park. There is a recently tuned console piano for those who want to focus on or fool around with the music that is in them.

Guest Access

The parking area is right next to the building. Surry and nearby communities such as Blue HIll are interesting and beautiful with abundant cultural offerings. We even have a unique performance venue on the grounds. You may view the website for Surry Arts at the barn (URL HIDDEN) to learn about our program offerings.

Interaction with Guests

I will glad to assist you in any way possible with recommendations for outdoors, culture, restaurants and more.

The Neighborhood

The cottage is located on an iconic Maine farm with panoramic views, proximity to the water, and hiking trails both well within walking distance. A Buddhist meditation center is just a few minute walk on adjoining property.

Getting Around

Cyclists, hikers, kayakers, musicians and those just looking for R&R are welcome and. However, most people come by car and often carry bikes and small boats, kayaks etc.

Other Things to Note

Surry is centrally located between Blue Hill and Ellsworth. Blue Hill village is elegant and charming and offers a great deal for a small area including a grocery store with many organic options, art galleries, a great library, a wine shop, a pharmacy, an artisanal coffee shop a picturesque town park and of course a relatively easy hike up Blue Hill Mountain with great views of the water and landscape from the peak. While Ellsworth offers more diversity and commercial options with antique stores, a range of ethnic foods, and gift shops in their downtown. Further down the road you can also find big box stores. Driving down the Blue Hill Peninsula one finds quaint towns on their way to Castine and Deer Isle - Stonnington. Stonnington is the end of the peninsula and features a working fishing village, it's own performing arts center and an up and coming Main Street.

Millions of people are using Airbnb to sleep in strangers' homes, beds, and even couches. They have an amazing selection and you can't find their stuff anywhere else. There is a catch: you often need to contact several hosts to actually get a place to stay, so make sure you give yourself some lead time.
