The Vacation Home
You stay in a clean 1000 square foot single-family home with 2 bedrooms and 2 full baths.
It sleeps 10 so there’s plenty of room for everyone. There is a Queen bed in the master bedroom. The other room has a full/double bed, 2 twin beds, and a futon. The living room has a pullout sofabed. I provide you with pillows, sheets, blankets and comforters for every bed including the sofabed and futon. There is a washer and dryer.
For your comfort, the bathrooms have towels and soap. There is a hair dryer, iron, shower cap plus other amenities. There is a sewing kit and medical kit.
The kitchen has everything you need: refrigerator, electric stove/oven, microwave, coffee maker, blender, electric can opener, and toaster. Plenty of dishes, glasses, pots/pans, utensils, flatware, cooking supplies, towels, hot mitts...you name it. There is salt, pepper, sugar and spices. (You bring your food.) I want you to feel at home.
Heating, Cooling and Water
The house is all wood floor except for the kitchen. Heated with central electric heat. Cooled with central air conditioning but it is not needed much. In the summer it goes down to 50s or 60s at night. The water is from a spring. The water here is very good.
Internet, Entertainment and Phone
There is DSL high-speed internet, both wired and wireless. There is Dish TV in the living room. In the other bedroom there is a DVD player, TV and DVDs. There is a landline phone with unlimited local and long distance within the United States so you can stay in touch with family and friends.
Porch and Yard
There is a covered back porch with a BBQ grill and chairs. In the back yard there is a picnic table for you to enjoy meals with your family. There is a firepit for a campfire. You overlook woods and farmland.
I do allow dogs (no cats). The house has a small fenced in yard (25 feet x 41 feet) that has shelter for protection from rain and sun. It is a great area for them. I do not have a weight limit or breed restrictions. Dogs need to be house broken, on flea medicine, and well behaved. If your dog is alone in the house, he needs to be in a cage/crate. When outside the fenced yard, your dog should be on a leash. I have cats, goats, ducks and chickens so I can't have any dogs that want to chase and kill animals. If you are bringing a dog(s), let me know how many.
Smoking & Parties
No smoking in the house as consideration for other renters who do not smoke. You can smoke on the covered back porch and walkway. Please no house parties with large numbers of people.
The vacation rental has a ramp to the door if needed for wheelchair or walker. The bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible. The house is 1 floor.
It does snow here sometimes during November through March. The average is about 10 inches a year though that varies a lot from year to year. Some years there is almost none. If there is snow, the driveway will be shoveled. But if it is snowing when you show up, you may have to park your car by the street (on the driveway) and walk to the rental. It is only about a 3-4 minute walk. The local roads are very well maintained when it snows.
You can park a small boat (18 feet or less) on my property near the road. Let me know if you are bringing a boat to the rental. Boat rentals are available 5 minutes away at Nantahala Lake.
Each child counts as a person when deciding on the number of people renting. Thank you. The Neighborhood This is a great neighborhood where there is real community. Most people here know each other. People wave to each other when driving by. You will enjoy the small-town atmosphere.
The vacation rental is located in Macon County, 2 hours west of Asheville, North Carolina. Atlanta is 3 hours away. It is 40 minutes northeast of Murphy, North Carolina. Franklin is 40 minutes away. It is 40 minutes to the closest Walmart or Lowes in Murphy.
The closest town is Andrews which is 20-25 mintues away. In Andrews are the nearest grocery store (Ingles) and drug stores (Walgreens or Turner). There are 2 restaurants (Lakes End, Wayah Cafe) 5 minutes away.
