The Space

The villa is a townhouse on a quaint residential street that backs right onto the crystal clear turquoise waters of Dutch Bay. Along with our neighbouring property Villa 232, it is closer to the ocean than any other villa we know of in Sri Lanka - the back garden gate opens directly onto the beautiful beach. In being a converted Sri Lankan townhouse, the villa is a new and unique concept for Sri Lankan villa tourism. As you walk down the quaint residential street, or down the beach past the fisherman casting their nets in the same manner they have for centuries, you would have no idea that tucked behind the unassuming facade is a spacious comfortable villa with amazing sea views and almost every modern convenience. There is a plunge pool in the garden (complete with fibre optic lights for atmospheric night dips). There are sun loungers in the garden and on the beach outside the house and multiple dining zones, indoor and outdoor. The space is furnished with teak and mahogany pieces designed specifically to suit the space. The kitchen looks out over the garden and the ocean beyond - it is well stocked with a decent selection of necessary cooking tools, utensils, bartending kit etc. Also, feel free to cook with any of the dry goods you find in the pantry cupboard. All the bedrooms have ACs, and there is a dedicated entertainment room with a projector (200+" screen), HD satellite TV and a home-networked library of 1000s of movies and TV shows. There is also a PS3 with four wireless controllers and a large collection of games. The master bedroom has a king size bed, with his and her basins in the master bathroom. There are two rain showers indoors and one outdoor shower with views over the bay. The spare bedroom has two single beds (can be made as a king on request), and there is a separate upstairs beach cabana bedroom, with dramatic views right over the Indian Ocean. The cabana bedroom also has a 40" TV with cable as well as access to the same home network of movies and TV shows. The entertainment room contains a comfortable sofa bed and can be used as a fourth bedroom for an extra guest. Quality linens and towels are provided and can be changed during longer stays upon request. Ample hanging and drawer space for guests’ clothes is provided.

Guest Access

Guest will have their own keys and the whole place to themselves, with staff available when needed for cleaning, sweeping etc.

Interaction with Guests

The owners Kian and Janah usually stay nearby, a few doors down on the same street. We have an unobtrusive style of hosting - we will do everything we can to make your stay comfortable and you will be able to reach us 24/7 with any questions / concerns. You will have the place completely to yourself with your own set of keys - nobody will be in your way unless you request it. We are always more than happy to provide any help, advice or local tips that we can about sightseeing around Trincomalee / Sri Lanka etc.

The Neighborhood

The neighbourhood is a warm and friendly authentic Sri Lankan residential community. Unlike stays at so many hotels where guests are totally secluded and cut off from local life, at Villa 238 we feel guests have the best of both worlds. Once inside the compound you have complete privacy and seclusion, but step outside and you will see real Sri Lankan life; children playing on the street on one side and fishermen hauling in their nets on the other.

Getting Around

The villa is just a few minutes ride by car or Tuk Tuk from Trinco's bus stand and train station. China Bay airport is around 20 minute drive away. The air conditioned supermarket Food City is around 10 minutes away. You can see Fort Ferderick (Trincomalee's historic Dutch Fort containing the famous Koneswaram Hindu temple) from our back gate and walk there in around 10 minutes).

Other Things to Note

Free wifi, complimentary mineral water, quality tea and coffee (with mocha pot and French press), and complimentary toiletries are provided. A full cooked Sri Lankan or Western Breakfast is included. Other meals available on request. We also provide info and can advise you on all the various eating out / take-away / and delivery options in the area. IMPORTANT NOTE ON SEASONAL WEATHER: October to March is the rainy season in Sri Lanka's North-East. (The opposite timing to the South West of the island.)There is still a perfectly good chance of sunny days and weeks. However throughout this period (and from our experience especially in November, December and January) rain is quite possible and the sea and beach conditions may well be different than they are in the pictures from high season. (Low season pricing is set accordingly). All this applies to the entire North East of Sri Lanka of course - we just want to make sure our guests know what to expect at that time of year :)

Millions of people are using Airbnb to sleep in strangers' homes, beds, and even couches. They have an amazing selection and you can't find their stuff anywhere else. There is a catch: you often need to contact several hosts to actually get a place to stay, so make sure you give yourself some lead time.

Place's rules

- We only ask that guests treat the place with respect and consideration as if it were their own. - In the event of any accidental damage please just notify us. - Smoking in outdoor areas only please. - Check-in / check out can be pretty flexible on days there isn't another party checking in/out on the same day. - We do not provide drivers' accommodation but their are many places for drivers to stay very nearby. DRIVERS AND TOUR GUIDES MAY NOT STAY IN THE VILLA - NO EXCEPTIONS. - Are you aware that The East Coast of Sri Lanka has a completely different monsoon season to the South Coast? When it is heavy rainy season on the East Coast it is dry season on the South Coast and vice versa. Especially in November/December the East Coast is often hit very hard by monsoon rains and the sea can be unswimmable. We do not advise planning to stay in Trinco exclusively for a sun / sea/ sand beach holiday in November / December.
