Located on the edge of Stanislaus National Forest, Arnold is Northern California wilderness at its best. A three-hour drive from San Francisco, the town is the perfect place to launch a long weekend getaway from the Bay Area.
The main attraction in Arnold is Calaveras Big Trees State Park, where as the name suggests, you'll likely see some of the biggest trees you will ever come across. The Sierra Nevada Logging Museum is an excellent option if you're interested in the area's history. And of course, there are plenty of excellent hiking trails in the area to keep you busy.
The best time to visit is in the late spring and early fall. Be sure to check wildfire alerts before heading out.
