The old town of Bergen, Bryggen, is a protected heritage site with curious, crooked houses and museums weaved through narrow streets just waiting to be explored. Elsewhere, don't miss the Hanseatic Museum to learn about when the city was a thriving merchant society on the Hanseatic Wharf.

Check out one of the biggest museums in Norway, Kode, which has the largest collection of Edvard Munch’s art work outside of Oslo. For more culture, pay a visit to the homes of some of Norway's finest composers, Edvard Grieg, Ole Bull, and Harald Sæverud.

Once you've worked up an appetite, Bergen's fish market is the place to be. Wander the seafood stalls and sit down for a legendary plate of fish, only to wash it down with a trip to a trendy microbrewery for handcrafted beer after.

For those who want more outdoors action, hike the seven mountains that surround the city or rent a bike and see the city on two wheels. The sunset views from Ulriken Mountain are incredible, and if you're feeling a little low on energy, you can reach the top by cable car. There are also lakes and beaches throughout the city, with plenty of opportunities to hire a kayak or go swimming.

Last but certainly not least, join a Fjord Cruise and Tour to sail through the waters between towering hills and see tiny villages from the boat -- a truly breathtaking sight.
