Things to Do in Breckenridge

Of course, you can't miss out on Breckenridge Ski Resort, with nearly 3,000 acres of slopes and paths for you to ski or snowboard. In the summer months, head back to the same mountain areas to check out the hiking trails. Trails of all levels will take you up the mountains to get the most spectacular views of the beauty of Colorado. For an indoor activity that kids will love, check out the Mountain Top Children's Museum, full of hands-on activities. Best Time to Visit Breckenridge

A Local's Guide to Breckenridge vacation rentals

Situated at the base of the towering Rocky Mountains, Breckenridge, Colorado is home to some of the world’s best skiing and snowboard in the winter, world-class mountain biking in the summer, and spectacular mountain views year-round. Located in what is known as the Ten Mile Range of the Rocky Mountains, Breckenridge Colorado is a can’t-beat vacation home rental destination. Once a mining town, Breckenridge is now one of the nation’s most lively ski towns with buzzing nightlife, an excellent food scene, and vivid culture of arts and music.

A Day Itinerary

The perfect day in Breckenridge, of course, begins on the mountain ski resort. If it’s winter, hit the slopes and ski and snowboard some of the world’s best runs.

If skiing isn’t your thing, why not go sledding or tubing on the snow! You can find a free sledding hill at Carter Park, just don’t forget to bring a sled. Meanwhile, for more snowy fun, why not take part in a snow sculpture building challenge. People from all over come to build works of art (some of which take hours to build). The competition usually takes place annually at the end of January. You can also sign up to a sleigh ride or go ice-skating for more fun winter activities. Snowmobiling is another great way to experience the fresh powder on the mountains.

If it’s summer, ride the resort chairlift up to the top of the mountain, and mountain bike down for a thrilling adventure. Or spend a glorious day on the scenic Blue River either white water rafting or fly fishing.

If you want a break from the activities and you’re looking for a history fix, do a walking history tour of Breckenridge and find out about the gold rush alongside other interesting stories. You can sign up for tours at the welcome center. Tours typically take between one and two hours. You can also take part in a specific gold rush tour -- while the gold rush started in California, it still made its way to Colorado. During a tour, you can imagine what it must have been like trying to find a nugget of elusive gold. For a further history fix visit the Summit Ski Museum, where you can find out the history of skiing in the area.

Meanwhile, if you’re after a spot of retail therapy, Breckenridge is home to several stores, including bookstores, antique stores and places to pick up arts, crafts, and souvenirs. There’s also an outlet store in nearby Dillon.

Why not kick back some more and do a spot of wine tasting? The Continental Divide Winery is a great place to visit and you can either do wine tasting or your very own wine blending. The wine blending session lets you make your own blend, and lasts around two hours.

For an extra fun activity, visit the Oxygen Bar. As the town of Breckenridge sits at a base elevation of 9,600 feet and a summit elevation of 12,998 feet, visitors may experience altitude sickness during their trip. And that’s where the O2 Lounge, or Oxygen Bar comes into play. You can take a seat and breath in some fresh oxygen. Even if you don’t suffer from altitude sickness normally, it’s still a good idea to stock up on some fresh oxygen to help regulate. You can also kick back with a hot chocolate or coffee.

Seasonal Events

Breckenridge’s jam-packed event schedule will keep you entertained any month of the year. During the fall, celebrate October Fest mountain style. In the winter months, view ski and snowboard competitions and attend music festivals in the snow.
