Brookings, Oregon is one of the warmest places along this stretch of rugged coastline. The town itself is situated on the Wild Rivers Coast, and it a gateway to some of the most scenic viewpoints for miles.
Harris Beach State Park is a spectacular place where you can see rock formations, ancient sea stacks and tide pools, watch for bird and marine life and enjoy walks and hikes. Families can enjoy miles of sandy beaches while couples can stroll along the shoreline and feel totally private in this secluded, natural sanctuary.
Birdwatching is popular here, with more than 100,000 species of seabirds nesting on the nearby Goat Island. Bring your binoculars! The tide pools also offer up secrets of the sea for delighted visitors, see if you can spot a starfish or two. Hikers can find easy accessible trails leading to incredible views across the ocean or take a trail back to downtown Brookings. Super serious hikers will want to take advantage of the hike along the Samuel H. Boardman State Scenic Corridor, 12 miles of inspiring scenery leading through myrtle groves and giant redwoods. Hiking is thirsty work, so check out the coastal brewery, Misty Mountain Brewing, for refreshments.
People often choose to camp near the Harris Beach Park, which is an excellent option near the shore.
