The charming town of Canal Winchester in Central Ohio is just 15 miles from Columbus yet feels much further with its quaint appeal and heritage. It offers a downtown historic district with shops and restaurants that are the true heart of the town, plus well-preserved sites like the old train depot and covered bridge.
Get your cultural and historical fix at the Motts Military Museum where you can peruse a range of displays from the Revolutionary War, Civil War, World Wars I and II, Korean War, Vietnam and Desert Storm. Another interesting attraction is Ed Jeffer's Barber Museum showing barbering-related exhibits dating from the 1700s to the present day. Then there is the Mid Ohio Historical Museum Doll and Toy Museum, with lovely antique dolls, dollhouses, trains, circus toys and more.
Outdoor enthusiasts will love Canal Winchester for its numerous parks in the town and two larger parks within minutes of downtown. Hiking trails and walking paths can be found in the James H. Kelley Preserve and at Walnut Creek Park. At Slate Run Metro Park you can find the Slate Run Living Historical Farm, a fun place to spend the day with farmyard animals and see a real working farm. In the same park you'll find acres of trails through woodlands which are just waiting to be explored.
