The Westchester County village of Croton on Hudson has the Croton River on its eastern edge and the Hudson to its west. Due to the rivers and scenery, there are plenty out outdoor activities here: from boating to fishing to hiking and bird-watching. The village has a history of attracting artists and writers, all of whom have created a Bohemian atmosphere.
At Silver lake Park on the Croton River, enjoy walking trails or take to the water by kayaking and swimming. Horseback riding is always an option too, with local stables and guides available.
For excellent views of the Hudson River, check out Croton Point Park, known for its birdwatching. If you time your visit right, check out the Clearwater's Great Hudson River Revival -- a fun music and environmental festival.
Over in the central business district visitors can find eclectic cafes, restaurants, and shops.
Fall is best here, as travelers can enjoy the unique Great Jack-O-Lantern Blaze where carved Jack-o-lanterns light up the village.
