Fleischmanns gets its name from Charles Louis Fleischmann, founder of a company famous for yeast and whisky. He transformed the place into a summer hotspot for the very wealthy, resulting in grand hotels operating here and enabling the town to thrive on tourism. Things have changed over the years, but Fleischmanns still proves popular with tourists due to its many outdoor activities.
With the Belleavre Mountain Ski Center and New York State Forest Preserve Land on its doorstep, Fleischmanns is a starting point for wonderful hikes and visiting the Katerskill Falls -- there are also a range of easier hiking trails depending on your ability and energy levels. If you're still feeling active, wander the grounds of Spillian, Fleischmann’s extraordinary mountain estate.
After a long day out, head to one of the many places to eat and drink -- the town boasts a wide selection sure to suit every need.
Summer and fall are the best times to visit -- the former for being outdoors and the latter for the cozy scenery.
