Franklin is a beautiful small town nestled in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. As its nickname suggests, one of the most iconic things in Franklin is the Franklin Gem and Mineral Museum. It’s not just limited to pretty rocks, here you’ll find old native american artifacts, dinosaur fossils, and more. As far as entertainment goes, visit the Smoky Mountain Center for the Performing Arts, a beautiful building that hosts drama, live music, and dance shows. The streets of downtown Franklin are dotted with a wide variety of shops ranging from outdoor outfitters to jewelry and home goods. However, arguably the best thing about franklin is it’s natural reserves. As part of the greater Nantahala National Forest, Franklin is within a stone’s-throw from beautiful lookout points, Dry Falls and Bridal Veil Falls, and Whiteside Mountain.

While springtime in Franklin is often touted as the best season, the summer heat isn’t too bad, so feel free to visit any time between March and October. Mother’s day weekend in May is often a time for gem and flower festivals.
