Ixtapa Travel Guide
Ixtapa, on Mexico’s Pacific coast, is the hidden beach vacation you’ve been waiting for. Surrounded by towering mountains on one side and clear, calm ocean on the other, the fishing-turned-resort-town is small without being too small, and is without all the tourist attractions of some of Mexico’s more famous beachside towns, like Cabo or Cancun. Ixtapa is perfect for anyone looking for the clearest of blue seas and the softest golden sand, with great adventure around the corner.
Things to do in Ixtapa
While in Ixtapa, you can’t miss out on a trip to Delfiniti, the town’s famous dolphin park. Meet and greet the intelligent mammals, play with them, swim with them, and learn all about the creatures and their habitat. Fan of ancient cultures? Just outside downtown Ixtapa, you’ll find the Xihuacan Museum and Archaeological Site, with ancient Mayan ruins, artifacts, and information about the culture and society. Ixtapa’s beaches and Ixtapa Island are perfect for days in the sun and sand, with snorkeling, swimming, surfing, and beachside sports.
Best Places to Stay in Ixtapa
Most of Ixtapa’s best resorts are along the shoreline, although downtown Ixtapa is a fun, unique part of the town as well. For the best luxury, however, the beachfront resorts are the best places to stay.
Best Time to Visit Ixtapa
The best time to visit Ixtapa is between early October and May, as June through September are often the hottest months in the town.
