Las Vegas Travel Guide

It would be next to impossible to mistake Las Vegas for any other city in the world.

Things to Do in Las Vegas

From the iconic strip and its neon lights, to street performers dressed as Elvis, to the casinos, the shopping and a nightlife scene that might not be topped by that of any city in the world, Las Vegas is truly a wonder. The first thing any Las Vegas visitor should do after settling in is walk the strip, preferably at night time. It’s always a show and the people watching is fantastic. Catching the fountain show in front of the Bellagio has a certain magic to it and is a great way to start or end your stay.

Many visitors catch shows or see famous DJ’s or performers at some of the larger clubs.

Best Places to Stay in Las Vegas

When it comes to choosing accommodations, the best options are always on the strip. Anywhere too far off the strip will quickly start to feel out of the way.

Best Time to Visit Las Vegas

Las Vegas is famous for its hot climate and is best avoided in the summer months. Spring and fall are the best times to go, but heading out for a New Year’s celebration is also a good option.

A Local's Guide to Las Vegas

Fantastic hotels, world-class shows and a nightlife that never sleeps – Vegas has it all. From the landmark casinos to musical fountains and death-defying theme park rides there is something to suit every visitor. Billed as the entertainment capital of the world, vacationers will never be bored in this desert utopia. It is one of the world’s most visited destinations -- around 39 million people party in Vegas every year.

There are so many things to experience in the bustling city of Las Vegas that tourists could find it hard to fit them all in. From gambling in the casino, to watching shows like Cirque Du Soleil and eating at top end restaurants the choice is incredible.

The Las Vegas strip is about four miles long and houses bars, casinos and restaurants that make up the vibrant nightlife. Taking a walk along here will give guests the chance to immerse themselves in the sights, sounds and smells of Sin City.

Themed hotels including the Egyptian Pyramid, Venetian Grand Canal, and the Eiffel Tower are among the landmarks.

Las Vegas is home to some of the world’s scariest, biggest and most out-there rides. For fans of roller coasters, there are several rides to tick off the bucket list while visiting. The scariest and most impressive has to be the four rides on top of the Stratosphere. The 1,000 ft high tower has Insanity, X-Scream, Big Shot and Sky Jump. From spinning over the edge of the tower while looking down, being flung from the edge of the building, launched even higher up from the roof or jumping off to zip-line all the way down, these rides are bound to get your blood pumping. To view the whole of the famous Fremont Street quickly, brave visitors can take a zip wire from one end to the other.

Las Vegas is close enough to the Grand Canyon for a day trip out. The incredible natural landscape can be seen by foot, by road or even from the air. Up to 18 miles wide at the widest point, the canyon is a stunning natural formation carved over centuries by the Colorado River.

A smaller and equally scenic trip is the drive to Red Rock Canyon. The one way 13-mile trip includes hiking and trails, camping and exhibits in the visitor centre. If hiking and climbing is too active, then golfers can head to a golf club and play a game or two.

One of the most popular things to do in Las Vegas is watch the musical fountains at the Bellagio Hotel. The free aquatic show sees the water jets set to music every 15 minutes and draws in big crowds.

Every visitor to Las Vegas has to get a shot standing next to the “Welcome to Las Vegas” sign. The iconic billboard often has queues of tourists lining up to get a picture and officially marks the start of the Vegas attractions.

Get a taste of Italy in the heart of Vegas with the iconic waterways of The Venetian. The replication of the famous canals are complete with Gondola rides and singing Gondoliers.

To get the most out of a break in Las Vegas, book a vacation home close to the main strip. Most of the vacation rentals are modern with good facilities and within walking distance of all the main attractions. Rentals in Las Vegas come in many different sizes for couples, families and groups of friends heading to the city for a special occasion.
