Paia Travel Guide

On the beautiful island of Maui, just east of Kahului, is the historic small beach town Paia. The tiny welcoming international community used to be one of the most prosperous plantation towns during the sugar cane industry boom. Nowadays, you will find a unique, laid-back place full of rustic, colorful buildings, yoga studios, boutiques and restaurants, plus local art galleries and a sought-after health food store.

Things to Do in Paia

Hookipa Beach is one of the world's meccas for windsurfing and kite surfing. In winter, the waves draw pro-surfers here -- a great day out spectactors who perch on the sand and watch them battle the winds. The beach is also ideal for sunbathing and swimming, as well as being one of the best spots to watch a Maui sunset.

Another fantastic beach includes Baldwin Beach Park (known as 'Baby Beach' by the locals) with a lagoon perfect for kids to swim in.This area is also popular for beach-side yoga and cycling.

It's not all surfers and waves in Paia, there's a vibrant art scene here with many new galleries featuring renowned artists. The art vibes clearly spill out onto the streets also, with much of Paia possessing a cool, hipster atmosphere.
