Rico used to be a silver mining area, which means that it is now a town rich with history. Found in Dolores County, Rico has become a popular tourist destination in Southwest Colorado not only for its past, but also for hiking, biking and fishing opportunities. The downtown area has historic buildings to admire and some are still standing from the mining days of the 1880s. For dining, there are a few local restaurants in town and live music in the evening.
For hikers and bikers, Lizard Head Wilderness is an outdoor playground, with miles of trails through the forests to explore. For fishing, the Dolores Rivers is the perfect place to go, with Brown Trout and Rainbow Trout found here. If visitors want to learn more about the region, there is the Rico Historical Museum. For some relaxation on vacation, head to Rico Hot Springs, which is found along the Dolores River.
The best time to visit Rico is during the spring and fall months, which offer beautiful surroundings and show off the best of Colorado nature.
