Things to Do in Rock Island

History buffs should check out the Black Hawk State Historic Site -- the place where Sauk Warrior Black Hawk lived when the US army was securing the area for settlers. Elsewhere, Figge Art Museum houses a wonderful collection of art, while the Botanical Center has a great collection of rare Conifer trees.

Be sure to make time to visit the Mississippi River Lock and Dam No 16, which, when it opens up for tow boats and barges, is quite an impressive spectacle. The Mississippi River Visitor’s Center is worth visit too, for a chance to tour and get more information about river boats.
