Things to Do in Saco

Saco is a picturesque city with rich heritage which you can discover taking part on the Main Street walking tour. Absorb the past on this stroll down a half-mile section of Main Street, with architectural gems like the Colonial revival museum or the Romanesque church. There are many buildings from different periods like the Queen Anne style house, residences from the Greek Revival, Federal period, Victorian and much more.

When you exhaust the delights of downtown, you can choose from a variety of outdoor activities. Saco’s water front location is good news for all beach and water lovers. You can rent kayaks, canoes or sail boats and explore the river and bay. Equally diverse are the miles of natural foot trails for hiking, cross-country snow shoeing or skiing.

If you’ve got kids in tow then you can’t miss Saco’s famous amusement and water park Funtown/Splashtown U.S.A (the biggest in Northern New England by the way) and if you’re still looking for thrills after that then there’s Aquaboggin, the original water park in Maine.

Saco also has a drive-in movie theatre, so perfect for a charming night out at the flicks.

Best Time to Visit Saco

The natural beauty of Saco is wonderful in fall when the leaves fall, but summer is when things really get going. In June you can enjoy the fun of a four-day Franco American festival, La Kermesse with a parade, dances and fireworks forming part of the celebrations.
