On the shores of Lake Erie lies Vermillion, a charming town with a real old-fashioned seaside atmosphere. In Vermillion, visitors can experience a traditional small-town vibe with concerts on the village green, typical beach fun, and some beautifully preserved architecture.
Once known as the Village of Lake Captains this legacy is seen in the Captain's houses, built in styles from the Victorian, Italianate, Arts and Crafts, and Queen Anne periods. A stroll around town and through the lovely neighborhoods is a great (and cheap) way to pass the time here. After, pop into the Inland Seas Maritime Museum then head down to Main Street beach for a walk along the sandy shores.
For water enthusiasts, the Vermilion River flows into Lake Erie and brings with it yachts and boats to dock at the marinas in town. There's also a bike path, kayak trail and many water activities to take part in on the Lake.
Over in Victory Park (known as the village green) you can often enjoy a concert at the Gazebo and stroll through the rose gardens. The Vermilion River Reservation is where you will see nature at its best in this area, with areas for picnics and trails for spotting the bald eagles that live here.
Summer here is wonderful, as the locals sit out on their front porches and watch the incredible sunsets.
