A small community in the Town of East Hampton, New York, Wainscott has a tiny population of only 650 people (as of 2010) and is a considered a true hidden gem. There's a range of things to do in Wainscott for all types of travelers. Head to Georgica Beach to enjoy a day spent on the long sandy stretches, next to the azure waters. Activities here include swimming, water sports, and exploring the rock formations. The beach is normally very quiet and a secluded feel to it. Elsewhere, the Sag Harbor Whaling & Historical Museum is the place to learn all about the community's whaling history, complete with the largest collection of whaling equipment in New York state. The museum has boats, art, and interesting items on display, all stored in a stunning white mansion. For the adults in the group, head to the Wölffer Estate Vineyard after a long day of exploring, to sample the local wines and ciders, as well as learn about the production process. The estate also boasts a winery, kitchen, winestand, and stables, so there's plenty to keep entertained by.
July and August are the warmest months in Wainscott, averaging 80 degrees and having little rainfall. However, this time is also the busiest, and vacation rentals tend to increase in price. Spring is equally beautiful and pleasant but has fewer crowds and slightly cheaper places to stay.
