Nearly 20,000 people will be in attendance this year, which could mean an overwhelming experience, unless you’re prepared.
Here are our top 8 tips to get ready for INBOUND 2017.
1. Ditch your friends
Just kidding, sort of. But seriously, there are tens of thousands of people attending INBOUND, which means opportunities for networking connections, whether it be new friends, mentors or business partners. Branch out and make the time to meet new people.
2. Attend every social event
INBOUND hosts official receptions and networking events. Go! Between the drinks, snacks and rooms full of bright minds, these events exist to set you up for success. Make the most of your time at the conference and attend as many social events as you can.
3. Divide and conquer
Likely you’ll be headed to INBOUND with a team, which is ideal for a conference with 300+ breakout sessions. Plan ahead and pick all the sessions that you’re interested in attending and assign one team member to each. That way you’ll be covering as much ground as possible. Plan a short session at the end of each day for everyone on your team to report back.
4. Be inquisitive
The easiest way to strike up a conversation is to show interest in someone’s business or company by asking questions. It’s also the best way to learn creative solutions for your own. Have a problem you’ve been struggling to tackle? Ask advice from a stranger sitting nearby. You could even make a new friend or business contact!
5. Don’t skip the city
Boston is known for its historic sites, take some time to explore your surroundings. Sightseeing will provide a nice break from all the conference activity, and perhaps just the mental break you need to spawn some creativity.
6. Pack the essentials
An info-packed, 4-day conference means long days. Make sure to pack the essentials you need to get through the day, like snacks, a portable phone charger, water and business cards.
7. Create a plan
Plan your agenda ahead of time and narrow down the list as the event gets near. It’s easy to get excited by all of the options initially, but once a few days go by, you’ll have a clearer idea of what sessions will actually be beneficial to your company.
8. Keep an open mind
As a marketing professional, it’s easy to attend these conferences with a know-it-all attitude. Even if you’ve heard some information before, you might gain a new perspective on it. So, keep an open mind and be willing to learn and absorb. You chose to attend for a reason, make it worthwhile.
