Every year, as winter grows colder on the East Coast, the people of Plant City, Florida brace themselves for their biggest annual tradition – the Florida Strawberry Festival. The theme for this year’s festival is “Building New Memories” and where you stay can be just as much of a memory of the event itself. So in anticipation of the 11-day event, we decided to compile the coziest bed and breakfasts, as well as private home retreats.
Historic Strawberry House
The historic Strawberry House can be found right in the center of the old town where you can find many antiques similar to those that furnish this beautiful B&B. The owner treats guests as part of the family and you’ll have access to shared areas including a swimming pool. Just make sure to bring home strawberry shortcake when you’re back from the fair!
Palmer Guest House
This quaint guesthouse in Lithia, Florida (15 miles from Plant City) offers five double bedrooms to guests of the Strawberry Festival. As over half a million visitors are expected to come to Plant City, it’s helpful that Palmer Guest House is located in the peaceful countryside, where activities like horseback riding, kayaking and golfing, just to name a few, can give you respite from the crowd. At the very least, there’s a hammock and a butterfly garden for you to just chill out and contemplate strawberries.
Back to Eden B&B
This six-and-a-half acre B&B is a plantation-style country inn and is run by locals Dave and Sherry. There’s plenty of room in this inn with five themed bedrooms and a swimming pool to cool off from the Florida heat. Back to Eden B&B is a local recommendation with the backing of the Strawberry Festival itself. And don’t forget, if you need to escape from country living, both Orlando and Tampa are just a half-hour drive away.
This 4-bedroom house in nearby Lakeland gives you the benefit of having the whole house to yourselves. From the warm lounge complete with fireplace to rustic wooden floors, we can’t imagine a better place to put your feet up after a day of picking strawberries and munching on strawberry peanut brittle! And if you’re driving in from Lakeland, make sure to check out parking locations and prices before your trip to Plant City.
Mansion in Lakeland
Another pad you can find in Lakeland not too far from Disneyworld Orlando is the 4-bedroom home of Dan and Josie. These two will leave you the house to you so feel free to enjoy a barbecue in winter and an outdoor fire pit if it gets too chilly at night. This pristine and serene property gets rave reviews for its spaciousness and comfy beds. Just what you’ll need after 11 days of hardcore strawberry action.
